Response to Vasudevan and Hull's readings

I agree with Vasudevan that young people are making and remaking their identities in online and offline spaces. In fact, not just young people but also the older ones. It seems like technology not only created a space for them but also empowered them. During the tutorial, many digital stories were shown and some are really impactful. An issue I'm concerned with is whether our pupils are ready for it? Would they be overwhelmed with the power they hold? While it may be good to make/remake their identity, are they ready for the responsibility?

A program like DUSTY may seem a good way to get our pupils started but it may not be feasible with academically less inclined pupils. I believe that the school and parents would prefer us to spend this time strengthening them academically. By saying so, I am not demeaning such programs or inferring that they have no value, but our method of assessments using major examinations are still more conventional. The society places much emphasis on grades. During the tutorial, it was brought up that elite schools more have funds. My question is so what if the neghbourhood schools have as much funds as them? Frankly speaking, as a teacher, I'd rather devote more time in their academic studies.
